The Egyptians are probably the most readily available source for using ancient beauty lotion to not only beautify themselves but also preserve their dead! That's right - using good smelling herbs, plants and oils they would make lotions that would make them smell good and also protect their skin from damage.
So how does it work?
Well, beauty lotion is pretty simple in nature even though you will find a ton of long ingredients you cannot pronounce on most items. Basically it relates back to oil. Oil prevents water from entering or leaving. It also acts to defend against other invaders like sun damage or bacteria. Putting oil on your skin makes a protective layer just like your cells have already. That's pretty much it! Beauty lotion is basically a derivative of plain old oil (olive oil works best if you're going to go natural).
